39 Weeks

Killing time. That’s all I’m doing at this point. Still no signs of baby, and I have no reason to believe s/he will be making an appearance in the next 48 hours either. Thankfully I’m feeling better this week than last. I’m feeling less impatient, and more calm. I’m no longer worrying about labor, just feeling excited about it coming.

I’m sleeping better. The insomnia seems to have passed, and that makes a world of difference.

I printed out some fun, inspirational sayings to post around when I go into labor.

What kinds of things do you do to psych yourself up for labor and birth?

I’ve also been wearing my Maya wrap sling around my belly as a support for a little while each day. What a neat idea! I found it on Pinterest:

It’s more comfortable than the belly support girdles that are sold in maternity stores, and free since I already have a sling. Why didn’t I think of this before?!

Week 39:

  • Go see a good movie. In the theater. (Like What To Expect When You’re Expecting?) We saw Chimpanzee last week at the dollar movie, and I loved it. It was a great reminder of how sometimes as moms we need to be like a monkey. Ina May Gaskin sometimes refers to this, suggesting that during labor moms “let their monkey do it”. Meaning- stop thinking so much, and just feel it. I still want to see What to Expect, for a good laugh, but it’s only playing at night at the dollar theater. I’m too tired at that point to venture out.
  • Rent a funny DVD to watch at home to keep my mind off my misery and how ready I am to have.this.baby.already!
  • Put my postpartum mama cloth pads in a convenient spot in the bathroom. Done. Ditto for the witch hazel wipes. Those feel so nice after baby!
  • Prenatal appointment. Actually my midwife told me there was no need to come in this week. My blood pressure is low, baby’s in perfect condition, everything is just right. It’s a go. That was kind of a relief, since she’s about 45 minutes away from my house and it’s a tiring trip back and forth.
  • Brainstorm ways to creatively preempt the “yes I’m still pregnant you clueless idiot, and NO it’s not twins” conversations. Ha! My strategy thus far has been to just stay home. I will have to go out grocery shopping tomorrow. I was so hoping last week would be my last shopping trip pregnant!

What’s new in your world?

Wow Carrie! 39 weeks…and why didn’t I think of that for my belly??? Gosh, I’ll probably never get to try it, but that’s such a great idea.

I didn’t do anything to psych myself up for labor this time. I seriously thought I had another 7-10 days to go (except that my body had been telling my otherwise, I just couldn’t believe I might go on time!). I basically let myself rest and conserve energy as my body wanted to in preparation for delivery.

I hope yours goes super smooth!
