9 Year of Diapers: The End of an Era

Well it looks like miss Sadie has decided she’s done with diapers. It’s so funny because for a weeks now she has driven me and everyone else crazy because she’s been so clingy. I literally could not walk across the room without her screaming. I tried to just wait it out but once or twice I had to get out of the house without her because I thought I would lose my mind!

For years I’ve heard of this equilibrium/disequilibrium theory with kids. That basically, every 3 months or so they switch between a period of equilibrium where everything runs pretty smoothly, with a period of disequilibrium where their behavior is challenging. Now I think she was acting this way because she was about to hit the developmental milestone of potty training!

I was gently easing her into it and haven’t been awfully committed (she’s only 23 months old and where we live right now has carpeting so I was concerned about accidents), but for about 2 months now I knew she was getting ready. She would wake up dry in the mornings, and sometimes if I sat her on the potty she would go. But she had no interest in sitting there any other time really.

She also took off her diaper the MINUTE she soiled it… whether it was wet or poopy. A couple of times she did so and a nice little brown biscuit ended up on the floor and the next thing I knew she had grabbed a bit of tissue, scooped it up and threw it in the toilet. LOL! She isn’t very verbal yet, but she is as sharp as a tack.

Yesterday she was playing at my feet and suddenly stopped, went into the bathroom, sat on the little potty and went. Completely without fanfare. And unprompted by me too! Then she proceeded to do it again, 3 times in a row.

Today she’s had a couple of accidents but overall she’s done great. I know it’ll be a few weeks of two steps forward, one step back, but for the most part she’s a proud Princess Panty wearer.

And this Mom is just about done with diapers after 9 years of changing them!

If you begin missing that Era feel free to come my way and take over. lol I’m honestly beginning to wonder if my son will ever be potty trained!

Congrats to little Sadie…and you! I know this has to be a bit bitter-sweet, though.

WOW - that’s really wonderful…that’s how Aubrey trained, I wish Zachary was that easy!

You have described Lyndsee to a TEE! Except that she don’t care to go on the floor. She HATES diapers and will kick me and scream if I put one on her. She wears panties to bed at night and never wets the bed.

But OMG I’m going crazy. She will sit on the potty but thats it she will never go but insists to wear panties.

WTG Sadie… We are so proud of you!
