ecoWednesday – Tsk, tsk, to disposable panties

Tut, tut… my finger is shaking at the manufacturers of these disposable undies aka “Nundies“. At 3 for $15, they’re not exactly friendly on the wallet. But the main issue is, throwaway panties have got to be the most ridiculous, ecologically irresponsible disposable item I’ve heard of in a long time.

Hey, I can understand wanting to do bare. Underpants are a relatively new invention after all, and really aren’t that great for our health.

I worked with a woman once who told me that she never, ever wore undies except that certain 5 days of the month. And rumor has it Ashley Judd goes commando. What’s more, Dr. Robert Bradley of Husband Coached Childbirth says it’s ideal for pregnant mommies (and really all women concerned about their health down there) to ditch te panties and wear long skirts that allow them to squat, move around and generally get moreĀ air to the area. He said it would cure all yeast infections.

Yea, there’s just no excuse for disposable unmentionables.

  1. At least they are too expensive for daily use. ;)

Commandos has an organic cotton patch with recycled paper package – maybe a more earth friendly option?

Okay, natural underwear and the cost seem crazy. As much as my hubby might like no underwear I have to vote no. There’s a line I draw to the O’Natural.

The girls of our house have been dresses only for about 4 years now and the “down there” health is one of many reason we choose to do so. I used to be pretty prone to yeast infections and haven’t had once since I stopped wearing pants… the comando option is interesting though.. hmmmm – less laundry. :-)

You may have posted this before but do you have a good source for momma pads for those special days of the month?

Ok so I actually clicked on the link to see what in the world these are… aren’t they just glorified pantiliners and can’t you buy a whole pack of those at Costco for less money than one of these things?

  6. Carrie says:

I know – that’s why they are so incredibly wasteful!
