Giveaway: Clip ‘N Feed Nursing Covers

December 20, 2008

I’ll start off by saying that I’m not a big fan of nursing covers.

In my opinion, they don’t make breastfeeding less discreet. When I see a mom with a nursing cover, I think it screams, “Look at me! I’m covering up my breastfeeding baby!“.

I encourage moms to learn how to latch baby on quickly and arrange their clothing around their body so as to nurse discreetly in public. Practicing in front of a mirror can help. If you get good at this, most people (except for another nursing mom!) will not know you’re breastfeeding.

At the same time, for some mothers, using a nursing cover means the difference between breastfeeding and not breastfeeding.

You know from reading posts like this that I’m for breastfeeding, not nitpicking!

To that end, I think nursing covers can be a good tool in some mom’s arsenal. I would rather see a mom using a nursing cover than feeding her baby formula, or even her own milk in a bottle. Some of the benefits of breastfeeding are lost when mom doesn’t offer her milk straight from the source. I also acknowledge the fact that for some of you, nursing around your relatives may be extremely uncomfortable, and in order to meet your baby’s needs as well as not create controversy, you might opt for a cover up. (More tips on this: breastfeeding around the holidays.)

This cover would be a lot more effective than throwing a blanket over your shoulder, because for one thing, it would stay on instead of quickly getting kicked away. Also nice is the fact that you can actually see your baby because the neckline comes away from your body enough for you to peek in at baby (especially helpful for newborns who need some help with latch).

It features clips that either attach to the neck strap or to your clothing.  It also clips to strollers, car seats, baby carriers, or whatever else – for a quick spit up cloth or blanket.  Unlike other nursing covers, this one has “Stroller Straps” to tie it down to the stroller. No more picking up blankets after baby kicks them to the dirty grocery store floor!

ClipnFeed comes in a variety of prints and patterns, and they even have eco-friendly and organic options. You can learn more about their product line at: http://www.clipnfeed.com

I’m going to make you work a little for this giveaway. :-)

In the comments, tell me the most helpful breastfeeding tip you got.

(If you didn’t get any helpful breastfeeding tips, share your OWN sage wisdom!)

It could be anything from “sleep when the baby sleeps” to “keep the Lansinoh handy”. Whether it was a book you kept by your bedside table or a helpful hubby, please tell me below!

I will pick a winner on Tuesday, December 23rd at noon Eastern time and come back here to announce it. Be sure to leave a current email in the comments field so I can contact you!

P.S. The cover I’m giving away is a pretty pale pink with cute polka dot trim, not the blue floral design you see in the picture. You can see the pink design here, as well as a couple of other uses for it that go beyond nursing covers.

Watch your baby, not the clock. That was by FAR the best advice I got (ie: nurse on demand)

    thanks for the chance :)

My husband was the most supportive person. Those first few weeks were hard during the night and he would say to me “you don’t want to give him formula, right?” That was always the biggest kick in the butt for me. I was determined to nurse and he was super supportive.

Also learning to nurse on demand rather than when it is “time”. A tip that I could give is that if you are having a difficult time nursing, ask for help. I started attending La leche league meetings. It helped to be around other nursing moms, since all of my friends used formula. The support system is wonderful!

I think the best tip I got was to just relax. I was so tense when first learning the ropes of breast feeding that my shoulders were up to my ears! My baby could sense the stress and he had difficulty latching on. Once I relaxed, he seemed to latch on better and wasn’t as frantic with trying to eat.

Also, hot showers help with great let downs!

My best breastfeeding tip? Hmm.. If your baby is not hungry, and is giving you the cues that she is finished nursing… follow those cues and stop nursing. I did not in the past, and boy she sure can bite, HARD!! LOL, that is my best tip to you! I had to learn the hard way! Your welcome :)

My best tip would be that you can feed a baby too much, my last baby would eat constantly, and then spit it all up. I had to stop feeding her and give her a pacifier if she still acted hungry!

well as a girl who is about to be a first time mom and is absolutely terrified to breastfeed, even though I’m planning on doing it when the babys born, all these hints that I’ve read are extremely helpful I always wonder how people breastfeed in public but I never thought about getting a cover up I didn’t even know they made them!

I often breastfeed in public and never use a cover up. The best advice I received was if someone feels uncomfortable seeing this – it’s them that has the problem, not you.

Find a comfortable spot to breastfeed. You want to make sure you and your baby are both comfortable. I love the Boppy, it helps make the process much easier.

Got something to say?
