Michelle and I talked briefly on the show this week about our beliefs and how they have shaped our parenting choices. How has this been true in your mothering? And how have you handled it when others who share your religious faith don’t agree with your choices?

I have had an issue with my faith in the last few years becuase the VERY rigid religion I grew up with disagreed with my parenting choices. I left the church and never came back after a church official asked me to take my child (6 months old) outside (in winter) because they needed complete quiet in the building. This same group also insisted I nurse in a bathroom stall because nursing elsewhere was just not modest. Basically I felt that motherhood made me less a member of the congregation and I decided not to go where I felt unwelcome. Several other mothers left too.

I enjoyed your program today where Michelle differentiated between faith and religion. I guess I had not thought about it that way. When I left the church my faith went too, but according to what I heard today..it did not have to.

Got something to say?
