Love Messages For Kids

At the end of the day, we as parents want to feel like we’ve connected with our children.

We want them to feel loved. We want them to feel “heard”. We want to make sure we’ve looked them in the eyes.We want the love and concern we feel for our kids to not escape our children’s notice.

And even when our kid’s behavior disappoints us from time to time, we still want to connect, to validate their feelings, to let them know we understand their struggle, and that we’re still on their side.

That can be challenging, especially as our families grow, as kids get older and more involved in their own activities, and as life becomes more busy and stressful.

Leaving little love notes can be an effective way to get these important messages across.

One company, Messages4U, makes it easy with their Messages For Kids cards.

It’s been fun for me to leave these little notes around for my kids to find.

The other week, a special event happened in the life of my stepdaughter. I wasn’t sure how to handle it. I wanted to acknowledge the day, without overstepping. So I bought her a small gift, and left a card with the message: “I’m so glad our paths crossed!” with it.

When she saw it, she busted out of her room, ran up to me and gave me a hug.

For the first time.

One of my children struggles from time to time with feelings of loneliness.

I gave him a card with the message: “Good for a free hug. Redeem anytime.”

He comes to me, card in hand, at least once a day to redeem his free hug. :-)

One of my daughters, who was going through an especially challenging patch, got a card on her pillow. It read: “You’re one in a million.”

(Honestly, it was the nicest thing I could think to say about her that week!)

She was skeptical, but I could tell it softened her just a bit.

I’ve noticed that kids love surprises, and it doesn’t take a whole lot to make their day. A little unexpected attention, something shared just between you and them, can mean so much. Especially in a family where kids share parental affection with several siblings.

Card decks are available that are appropriate to give friends, your spouse and other adults. You can see more info at Messages4U.com
