Lovely Links

These are a few of my favorite reads from this past week:

- Make your own homemade cream of mushroom soup and avoid those mysterious ingredients.

- Never one to run from controversy, Penelope Trunk shares her thoughts on The Big Lie Homeschoolers Tell. WOW. She’s so right on with this comparison of breastfeeding and homeschooling.

- This article by Meagan about parents who behave obnoxiously in defending their ultra picky nutritional philosophies was spot on. Be sure to read the article she refers to by Michael Pollan as well.

- Speaking of food, I made this slow cooker mashed potatoes recipe and they were UH-MAY-ZING. This entire site is follow worthy for sure. (Although, I would substitute the bouillon cube for either chicken broth (eliminating the equivalent amount of water), or use an “unchicken” cube to avoid MSG.

I didn’t care for the big lie article. Found it ironic that Sandra Dodd is on there commenting that homeschooling would not have been good for her. Most everyone CAN homeschool but that does not mean they should or that every child would thrive in that environment. Since you really cannot say that babies should not be breastfed, that would be a rarity, the comparison is really very flawed. Anyway I commented there about how I really did my oldest son a disservice by homeschooling him. Technically I could homeschool him but it was not actually the best choice for him, as is evident in the way he is now thriving at his new school.
