I got this response from Lynne:

The study about work-at-home moms did not separate out causes, but I think indoor air quality is probably the biggest factor. That, combined with cleaning chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin.

Work at home moms tend to eat better than outside the home moms, and recently "domestic" exercise was shown to win out over the health club with regards to breast cancer prevention, so it doesn't seem fair!

I think the best thing we can do is choose environmentally friendly cleaning products (or use vinegar and baking soda like I do), open our windows often, use gloves and good ventilation with any products we are unsure of, and add several houseplants. Things that are actually quite simple!

Thanks again Carrie, I love your show!

"For instance, did you know that women who work from home are 50% more likely to get cancer?"

Why is it "work at home women" and not women who stay home? Or, is it the same thing?

I'm curious if work at home women face more health problems than stay at home moms.

I understand air quality, but I feel like many work at home moms are unhealthy and sickly because they let their business overtake their lives.

They never get out. They don't peel themselves away from the computer. They eat horribly. They are addicted and that is so so unhealthy.

Now, I'd say I live my life more as a stay at home mom who happens to own a business.

I don't spend hours on end in front of the computer, i cook fresh meals everyday, i get out with the kids and play with them and have hobbies outside of working...I just picked up a new one of knitting.

So, curious on your thoughts about stay at home moms vs work at home moms...is our risk the same?

(btw, i love plants and have them many places in the house and adore using our attic fan.)

Awesome topic! My kids do love raw veggies more than cooked ones - especially carrots!

Yeah, it just makes sense I suppose. Gotta wonder too if standing in front of the microwave a couple times a day to heat up a cup of water or whatever helps add to the stats?

I need to get more plants. The cats are the issue but I have some high bookshelves - that might help!

Thanks for the great post Carrie!
