I love baby slings.
My favorite sling other than the Maya Wrap, was a work at home mom made mei tai that I had for a few weeks, until I tragically lost it.
I searched my house – tore it apart really – and never found it.
Then this sling came my way. It’s a FreeHand Mei Tei Baby Carrier by TogetherBe
The FreeHand can be used several ways:
- A Back carry for older babies and toddlers
- A Front carry for older babies
- A Front carry for newborns (who don’t have great head control yet)
- A Hip carry for older babies and toddlers
Once my babies were older and not nursing as frequently, the Mei Tai style carriers were my favorites, especially for longer wear. Because the weight is more evenly distributed across the shoulders and back (unlike a sling which can dig into one shoulder), it’s great for wearing a baby even for a few hours. This style has padded straps, making it quite comfortable.
Mei Tais tie on so they take a few tries to learn how to tie them properly, and tight enough for safety. But the instructions (included and also on the site) are quite helpful. I got it the first time, being familiar with this style of carrier.
Since it’s appropriate for a baby up to 35 pounds, Sadie (3) won’t be able to use it for much longer! She loves it though, and sometimes asks for me to carry her in it.
This carrier comes in a lot of great colors and is also reversible.
Here is a picture of oldest carrying his baby sister in the FreeHand using a back carry.
