Barlean’s Omega Swirl: An Omega 3 Sensation

Barlean’s Omega Swirls is a smoothie in a bottle, packed with omega 3’s.  It is sweetened with Xylitol, which is a proven natural sweetener that actually fights cavities.  The omega swirls come in two different flavors.  The first one is made from 100% organic flax-seed oil in a banana-strawberry flavor.  It is also 100% vegetarian.  The lemon zest flavor is derived from fish oils and contains 730 mg of EPA/DHA per serving.  Both Omega Swirls are designed to keep the heart healthy, improve skin and nails and assist in a healthy blood-glucose level.

My child and I were able to sample each of the flavors.  He enjoyed both, but I did not.  The strawberry banana flavor reminded me of a warm yogurt that has been sitting out for awhile, so it’s kind of runny.

I was more afraid to try the lemon-zest Omega Swirl since it derives from fish oils.  I am not a big fish fan and that is why I prefer to swallow my fish oil in capsule form rather than taste it in a “smoothie”.

Surprisingly enough, it actually wasn’t that bad.  The lemon helped mask the fish oil smell and taste, although it was still present.  This one reminded me of those frozen lemonades you buy at the fair, only it was the “melted” version of one.  I’m thinking both of these Omega Swirls would have tasted a whole lot better if cold, from the fridge.

The good thing is, my son kept asking for more so at least it seems to be kid-friendly!
