Sometimes, Ya Gotta Wonder

January 13, 2008

Today is just NOT a good day for me to cook. Ever have one of those days?

First of all, I broke my most very favorite-ist antique glass juice pitcher whilst preparing breakfast. And just now, I put a chicken in the oven. That part wasn’t bad.

What was bad was that half stick of butter that I put on the chicken that somehow flipped itself onto the bottom of the stove, where it proceeded to burn itself into first a pool of greasy buttery goodness then ignite into little black cinders, promptly filling the kitchen and then the entire house full of smoke.

I went around opening windows and turning on fans, and while opening one in the kitchen I broke yet another dish – this time a ceramic coffee canister (see, I had to climb up on the counter to get to the window. Which yet again proves that housework can be hazardous to one’s health).

Only.

As I was walking back from opening the living room window, I passed a spider on the floor and something made me take a second look.

Yeah, it was one of those BAD spiders. A brown recluse.

I’m not one of those people who believes that “Everything happens for a reason.” But I’ve also learned that when something unpleasant happens, like getting caught in an unexpected traffic jam or going to the store and forgetting your wallet and having to drive all the way home or something else like that which appears on the surface to be really annoying…. sometimes if you get quiet instead of pitching a fit about it, you’ll see some benefit.

Like that spider that is now dying a horrible death by Clorox Clean Up asphyxiation. (It’s my Mom’s. I don’t buy stuff like that, y’know, being a natural mom and all. Although I really have to wonder about the toxicity of it when it took about twenty sprays just to make him stop moving. LOL!)

Just to be on the safe side though, I went out for lunch. :-)
