This Is a First for the Rug Rats

Do not adjust your browser settings. The Lauth children are not going to school. ;)

This is them on their first day of Art Camp. But this is definitely a first for the Rug Rats. They’ve never been inside a school before.

As I watched them walk away with their little lunch bags and BPA free Rubbermaid water bottles (filled with peach flavored green tea), I thought:

“Is this how Moms feel when they drop their kids off to Kindergarten for the first time?”

It was a mixture of apprehension, excitement, fear and pride.

I decided I wanted them to get out of my hair so I could work do something fun and social this summer - something other than meeting up with their friends and going to the pool or library or park or what have you - something I didn’t have to schlep them around doing myself, so I can work.

So I looked and found the perfect thing. About 5 minutes from my house, there is an old school house that is used by the county Arts Council. They host a day camp during the summer and it seemed like the perfect thing.

They accepted kids 5 - 12 (the other ones I looked into were only appropriate for the boys). There is Drama, Music, Art. Something for all 3.

The oldest is the Drama Major so he’ll LOVE doing theater.

The middle one is my Musician, and they’ll actually be teaching them how to read music and learn some songs on the keyboard (sweet since I just bought the piano!).

The youngest is my Artist. She loves to paint and draw and usually does that for a couple of hours each day so she’ll be in hog heaven. And they even do a little Dance. Which will also make Ms. Twinkle Toes curl hers. Toes that is.

Here they are, looking a little disheveled and sleepy. We relaxed homeschool types aren’t accustomed to being up and at ‘em at 7:00 in the morning. :-)

Note the DS in my oldest son’s hand. Suddenly, he realizes.

Oh crap.

My Luddite mom doesn’t like me to play DS in the mornings when I haven’t done more exciting things with my brain.

And I forgot to ask permission too.

Note the slick move here.

And my beautiful daughter, aka Dimples, insists on adopting the cheesiest grin.

Ever.

Always. For pictures.

So I’ll be spending a little more time with Sadie and she’ll also be enjoying her Grandma’s company while I get a lot more work done. There will be a lot less arguing around here.

I miss them already. :)

I think Julien is looking like a young Shia LaBeouf in these pics (only a little more shy and less buff). What you think?

(They’re all much cuter in person.) ;)

I never thought of something cool like an art camp! I’ve been looking for something for my kids and nephews to do this summer too. Duh. LOL

They are adorable. I don’t know about Shia, my nephew would give Julian a run for his money. ;)

    Carrie,

Your kids are adorable and what fun to go to art camp. Your oldest there thinks he is a smart one trying to hide the game.

I really enjoyed reading this! As a homeschooling mom, I totally agree and can identify with everything you said about the excitement and fear and apprehension and pride you experienced when dropping them off this morning.

    The kids are adorable!
